Manual Defibrilation VR training

Defib VR Training places healthcare students inside an immersive, true-to-life clinical environment where they practise the full manual defibrillation protocol from first response to shock delivery — on a Meta Quest headset, without the risk.

Working through eight evidence-based steps, students assess patient responsiveness, check carotid pulse and breathing, direct bystanders to begin CPR, don protective gloves, configure and charge a Philips defibrillator, prepare the paddles with conductive medium, apply them to the patient’s chest, confirm personnel are clear, and deliver the shock — all within a photorealistic hospital ward rendered in Unreal Engine.

Every session is tracked. Step completion, sequence, and time-on-task are recorded automatically, giving clinical educators objective data on student performance that written assessments and mannequin-based simulation simply cannot provide.

Developed by XRi Solutions in partnership with the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria, and accompanied by a formal research study, Defib VR Training is part of a growing portfolio of research-led XR applications built to meet the standards of academic evidence — not just the promise of technology.
